Na de breuk met Mark Darcy is Bridget Jones' 'nog lang en gelukkig' niet helemaal volgens plan verlopen. Als veertiger en weer single besluit ze zich te concentreren op haar baan als topnieuwsproducent en zich te omringen met oude en nieuwe vrienden.
