Yoko

An intimate and revelatory biography of Yoko Ono from bestselling author David Sheff. This compelling account draws from a decades-long friendship between Sheff and Ono, offering a unique perspective on her extraordinary life.

David Sheff first met Yoko Ono and John Lennon in 1980, shortly before Lennon's tragic death. In the aftermath, Sheff and Ono developed a close bond as she navigated rebuilding her life, facing adversity, and continuing her groundbreaking artistic endeavors. Drawing on extensive interviews with Ono, her family, friends, and collaborators, Sheff presents the story of one of the most remarkable and unconventional lives ever lived.

The biography traces Yoko Ono's journey from her privileged upbringing in pre-war Tokyo and her challenging experiences during World War II, to her immersion in the avant-garde art scenes of London, Tokyo, and New York. It explores how she endured intense public scrutiny and unfair vilification, often blamed for the breakup of The Beatles.

Moving beyond her association with John Lennon, this book delves into Yoko Ono's multifaceted identity as an artist, musician, feminist, and activist. It reframes her significant achievements and contributions independently, highlighting her immense talent and recognizing her status as a true artistic icon.
