Love Between Men by Pádraig Ó Tuama

Pádraig Ó Tuama’s Love Between Men explores the complexities of love, desire, and identity. Beginning with a reimagining of the Garden of Eden, the collection delves into intimate and abrasive voices, recasting Adam, Eve, and God. The poet then navigates personal experiences of exorcisms and gay reparative therapies through seven deadly sonnets, confronting the promise and fear associated with fulfillment.

These poems are characterized by their intelligence, humor, and raw emotional power. They examine themes of time, the edges of empire, and the limitations of language. Rage and prayer intertwine in punked-up forms and broken sequences, celebrating and challenging love for history, poetry, language, and ultimately, change.
