Joly Braga Santos - Complete Chamber Music [CD]

Explore the chamber music of Joly Braga Santos, one of the most important Portuguese composers of the twentieth century. This collection is for listeners interested in Portuguese classical music and the development of Braga Santos’s style.

His early works combine modal harmony, influenced by Portuguese Renaissance composers, with busy counterpoint, creating affinities with English composers such as Vaughan Williams and Moeran. His later music developed a more astringent harmonic language while retaining a burly sense of humour, energetic character and the spirit of Portuguese folk-dance.
