Richard Barbieri - Stranger Inside [CD]

Stranger Inside is Richard Barbieri’s second solo album, presented in a 2026 edition featuring Steve Jansen’s original 24-bit mixes, newly prepared for release. It explores intricate electronic and ambient soundscapes with a predominantly instrumental core.

A founding member of Japan and later an integral member of Porcupine Tree, Barbieri is known for his pioneering synthesiser work and explorations of electronic music. On this 2008 album, he develops the textural and rhythmic ideas of his debut, Things Buried.

Written and produced by Barbieri, the album features Steve Jansen on mixing and co-arranging, Gavin Harrison on drums and double bassist Danny Thompson. Sampled voices, including those of Tim Bowness and Suzanne Barbieri, add an atmospheric dimension.
